Day One - Transit to UK
In case you're checking in for the first time, I am currently in the UK for business - music business, that is. downhere is embarking on a 10-day tour of the UK with stops in Ireland, England, Scotland, and Denmark. I will be attempting to keep you in the loop on how the trip is going as things move along. So without further ado...
DAY ONE
The first day of our tour - well, really the first 30 hours - was spent in airports and airplanes (there were trains and automobiles involved too, but not enough to validate a "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" mention). We left Caronport, Saskatchewan shortly after 4am and arrived at the airport in Regina without incident. We discovered that we knew the son-in-law of the lady who checked us in at the airport - she was gracious enough to give us the code to the Air Canada Executive Lounge so we got to have some free coffee & hot chocolate before getting on the plane. We arrived in Toronto shortly before 11am and had to wait around until 3pm before we could get our boarding passes for our next flight and go to the gate. Thankfully we found some benches and were able to get some sleep...
Nothing else of note happened between then and boarding the plane (other than a visit from Living Lavada Mama and son), so at 6:25pm we were loaded up and ready to take off to London. I actually got some sleep on the flight (after watching "Man of the Year" with Robin Williams - it was entertaining, but definitely not worth spending any money on) so that was nice. We arrived without incident about 7 hours later - 6:25am London time.
Our next flight - the final leg of our journey - didn't leave until 11:25am, so we had some time to kill before checking in for the final time. Once again, time to sleep on the floor and try and get some rest. Glenn came off the plane having not slept at all and feeling rather queasy - maybe it was the food on the flight that made him sick to his stomach. So that's him curled up on the floor.
One observation: it was IMPOSSIBLE to find a garbage can in the London airport. This really puzzled me until I mentioned it to one of our British hosts and they said that this was for security purposes - garbage cans used to be prime areas to place bombs. When I heard that, I became far more willing to carry my garbage around with me a little longer until I found one!
Hours sleep: 4 (3 on the plane, 1 on a bench in the airport... NONE in a bed)
Next Destination: Belfast, Northern Ireland (still)

Oooh, that's not good. (I'm not a huge fan of longhaul flights and bad food.) Is Glenn feeling better?
