Day Thirteen - Victory, AK
This morning was glorious... as you can tell from this picture taken out of the front door of our hotel. I didn't have to do anything or be anywhere until 11:15am. I DID wake up pretty early - in fact, I was up briefly at 3:30am and thought maybe that was the most that I would sleep... but by 4am I was back out until 7am, at which point I got up and went down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast feeling great about my ten hours of sleep.
After breakfast I enjoyed just piddling around my hotel room doing some work, watching college basketball (I was afraid I missed March Madness while we were in Europe, but it looks like I'll still be able to kick my family's collective tail in the draw this year), talking to my wife, working out, taking a bath, etc. It was really nice...
We grabbed a quick bite to eat at Fred Meyer's before hitting the road for the hour drive from Palmer to Victory - again, a breathtakingly beautiful drive. We actually made a stop first at the Matanuska Glacier lookout, just a little farther north of Victory, for some pictures. Here is a panoramic picture (this is 4 pictures digitally pieced together):
The actual glacier itself is in the far left corner of the picture. Here is a closer picture of just the glacier... After our little moment with creation (I seem to be having MANY of these here in Alaska!) we headed back to the camp and the afternoon routine began - load in, set-up, sound-check, have dinner, play the show... although this weekend we're leading worship for a youth conference, so we don't do the concert part of the weekend until tomorrow night.
