Coffee Drinkers Rate McDonald's over Starbucks
I have never been a fan of coffee (for many of the same reasons I don't like beer or alcohol - just doesn't taste good!) and the thought of paying exorbitant amounts of money for a daily fix of some "personalized" concoction from Starbucks always seemed silly. Well, it seems that Consumer Reports has backed me up - sort of. In a March 2007 study comparing Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Burger King, and McDonald's coffees, all in basic black - no flavors, milk, or sugar - they found that McDonald's coffee was not only the favorite, but also the cheapest. My recommendations as a result of this study:
- Kick the habit - drink water instead! It's much better for you.
- If you MUST drink coffee, go cheap - it tastes better too!
- Boycott Starbucks until they make their Wi-Fi free.
Of course, you and I both know that none of this is going to happen in the foreseeable future (especially #3)... but it's always fun to dream.
In the meantime, who can come up with the longest Starbucks order for a single drink? You have to drink it quite frequently for it to count. And once you've written your order, you'll need to translate it for the Starbucks illiterate.

Pomegranate Jamba Juice, huh? Now THAT sounds good... That is quite the order, Jill - and it just sounds like a bunch of syrupy sugar to me when it's all said and done! I have heard many times that Starbucks is a great place to work because of the benefits - I suppose it helps to not like coffee and work there. It would be like working at Krispy Kreme and not liking donuts...

I don't like coffee either...and I work at Starbucks.
Coming up with the longest Starbucks order is then quite easy. You just have to use all possible modifiers. But of the ones I drink the longest is probably a nice little drink I call the Peppermint Patty.
Venti 6 pump peppermint 6 pump mocha light ice frappachino creme beverage.
Of course the grande mocha soy chai latte is quite good as well.

I'm not a coffee drinker, either. I also am off caffeine and dairy, so it's pretty tough to find anything at Starbucks I can have. They used to have a great decaf peach tea, but they stopped carrying it. The only flaw in the study, really, is that most people I know who frequent starbucks aren't buying black tea. They're in it for all the flavors and additives. LOL
Personally, I prefer Jamba Juice. LOL It's not cheap either. I love the new Pomegranate selection. And water's still probably better, and I drink lots, but it isn't quite as tasty. :)

I can't stand coffee either. Give me water or fruit juice any day of the week.
And yes, that means I love Jamba Juice which probably isn't as good for me as I like to pretend. But I don't get it that often, so it's okay, right? Right?

I'm with you. Coffee is nasty. Beer is nasty, and I can only stand weak mixed drinks.

Hey Jer,
Great post.
I have long spoken that McDonalds has great coffee. They intentionally did that. But not a lot of people know. Now while I strongly disagree with your opinions on Coffee and Beer (are you Canadian???) I do agree about the price and the wireless. There are coffee pubs here in Ontario called Williams that have decent coffee for a decent price with free wireless in thier shops. Second Cup and Starbucks have great coffee for expensive prices, but very expensive wireless internet. I don't go there.
Wireless plays a big role in my selection of coffee.
I like my coffee black and wireless.
