This past Sunday morning I found myself having one of the more humbling conversations I've had with someone in a while. I will do my best to transcribe for you below the gist of our conversation. The whole conversation lasted no more than 4 minutes, and all the way I was thinking, "This is going to make a GREAT blog post!!" Please understand - I really don't believe there was anything malicious about this conversation... I'll just chalk it up to cluelessness. (Names have been changed to protect the identity of "Clueless Joe".) I've included some "What NOT to say to an artist" tips for those of you who may not catch them...
JT: "Hi, I'm Jeremy."
CJ: "Hey - I'm Clueless Joe. Do you play with downhere?"
JT: "Yeah, I do, actually."
CJ: "That's cool! My wife and I just picked up your album last week."
JT: "Oh, that's great, man! Thanks!"
CJ: "Yeah, we were in Lifeway and are suckers for that $10 discount rack." (Tip #1: Don't tell the artist his record is in the discount bin!!)
JT: "Oh, wow. Well, that's awesome man - I'm glad you got it."
CJ: "Yeah... my wife doesn't like it." (Tip #2: Don't tell the artist you don't like their record!!)
JT: "Oh..."
CJ: "Yeah - I guess I'd better listen to the album this week now that I've met you." (Tip #3: Don't tell an artist you feel obligated to listen to their record!)
JT: (Trying not to act too bewildered and deflated) "Yeah, I guess so!"
CJ: "I think it's in my car right now... right beside David Crowder. And if it's between you and Crowder, you know he's going to win every time!!" (Tip #4: This one's stinkin' obvious!!)
JT: (Attempting to bow out of the conversation and find a corner to lick my wounds and swallow the heaping serving of humble pie just shoved down my throat) "That's nice... Well, great to meet you! I hope you enjoy the album!"
What do wallpaper and an ice cream maker have in common? Nothing, other than the fact that they both showed up in a conversation I had with my wife the other night (you can guess which one of us was asleep).
Me: "My Grandparents gave us the wallpaper."
Erin: "Your Grandparents gave us the wallpaper?!?"
Me: "Yeah, don't you remember? That was the first thing they gave us. But that's okay - the ice cream maker's okay."
Interpret that one, Joseph!
Here's a fun video for the day. I came across this website through a desk calendar my father-in-law got me for Christmas for exactly this reason: to provide me with some random blogging posts! Enjoy - and keep this in mind next time you have a craving for diet Coke and Mentos...
Well, I've been attending re:Create, a conference for arts pastors, in Franklin this past week and I've got lots of good stuff to be blogging about - just no time to do it! Today is no exception... So you'll have to wait a few more days to see some of that stuff. In the meantime, enjoy this fun commercial from America's hat, Canada. And when you comment, leave me some of your favorite YouTube clips - I don't have time to browse for the funny/amazing ones, but whenever I get together with family I need to have new material to show them. So help me out!
For those of you who are in "24" withdrawals these days as I am, I thought I would post this for you. Enjoy! [HT: Victor]
Sorry I've not been around the last couple of days. I've been in six states in six days with my band and it's been a busy time. We arrive home this afternoon though for almost two weeks, so that will be nice! This week's bear story comes to us from Donner Summit, CA - Rainbow Bridge, specifically - courtesy of Bill Robinson. It seems that this particular bear was walking across the bridge when he was startled by two cars also crossing and jumped over the edge.
Somehow he was able to catch himself on the ledge and pulled himself to safety.
When authorities arrived they decided that there was nothing they could do before the end of the day; when they returned the following morning they found the bear fast asleep on the ledge.
Once the secured a net under the bridge...
they tranquilized the bear, causing him to fall into the net...
and then lowered him to the ground...
where he walked out of the net safe and sound. Chalk another up for the California Wildlife Management Service!
I'm in Oshkosh, WI today and things are not what they seem. For starters, it's almost 90 degrees out - in October. Isn't it supposed to be fall right now? College football is pretty crazy too, today - another upset with Illinois over Wisconsin; and Tennessee is up 28-0 at the half against UGA. So, in the spirit of weird things this weekend, I thought I would bring this story to your attention:
"A Czech couple who decided to take a DNA test to squash persistent pub gossip and prove that their 10-month-old baby was their own got a nasty surprise.
The couple, from the southeastern town of Trebic, had some doubts about the child as her hair was blonde and they both had dark hair. Fellow drinkers' suspicions got on their nerves.
But the test showed neither of the parents had the same DNA as the baby, Czech news agency CTK reported Wednesday, suggesting a mix-up at the hospital.
Authorities were looking into the case."

It seems I have begun another series - this one having to do with bears! So, here's the next installment... These pictures were taken in Minnesota, and tell the story on their own. Just remember these pictures next time you start to curse the squirrels for emptying your bird-feeder!
